I'm Ibrahim Ahmed, a final-year Mechatronics Engineering student at Ontario Tech University. I design and develop robotic and automated systems by bringing mechanical, electrical, and software engineering together.
Capstone concept work includes evaluating alternative climbing architectures, contact and attachment forces, trunk geometry, and the ability to pass branches without removing them. The project emphasizes operator safety and low tree impact.

Autonomous Delivery Robot
Designed and iterated on an autonomous delivery robot for multiple terrain types and a multi-level maze with ramps. DC motors drive the four-wheel platform, while gyroscope feedback and ultrasonic sensors support navigation. An IR sensor detects packages for pickup with a servo-actuated claw.
The project progressed from traversing mixed terrain with four-wheel DC motor drive to a redesigned, compact robot for navigating a multi-level maze and collecting a package. The autonomous system used an Arduino Mega, a gyroscope for heading and turning feedback, ultrasonic sensors for navigation, an IR package detector, and two servos for the grasp-and-lift claw. Key design constraints included ramps, narrow corridors, turning accuracy, and power delivery.

INDUSTRIAL AUTOMATION / CADDESIGN & SIMULATION
Design of an automated work cell
Designed and simulated an automated assembly cell that fits 3D-printed snap-fit enclosures around Arduino UNO R4 Wi-Fi boards. The SOLIDWORKS model integrates an EPSON ProSix PS3 six-axis robot, two 3D printers, input/output conveyors, and safety guarding. Our design was evaluated through motion simulation, enclosure FEA, and a review of applicable CSA safety standards.
We developed and compared work-cell layouts, then modelled a compact assembly system with a centrally positioned robot and part-handling stations. The report includes CAD assemblies and drawings, a component and assembly analysis, and reviews of robot reach, guarding, emergency stops, and energy isolation.
The simulated assembly cycle was estimated at approximately one minute under the study assumptions. The project is a CAD-based engineering design and simulation, not a physically constructed or certified work cell.

Car Seat Design
With the guidance of Dr. Ahmad Barari, my peers and I collaborated to research, design, and analyze an automotive seat with two mechanical functions: reclining and sliding. We created a full CAD model, reviewed relevant patents and standards, and completed an economic analysis of our design.
Siemens NXSliding & recliningMotion study
Design project
Our team developed a 16-part CAD assembly in Siemens NX featuring a sliding rail and locking lever mechanism alongside a lever-operated reclining mechanism. The project included concept selection, a motion study, engineering drawings, a bill of materials, patent and standards research, and a House of Quality matrix.
The report also provides a manufacturing cost analysis, with a historical estimated cost of approximately $400 per seat for the proposed design.
A cross-disciplinary foundation spanning design, automation, control, and implementation.

A BIT MORE ABOUT ME
Curiosity is how it starts.
I'm interested in engineering that moves beyond theory and into working systems. Whether I'm developing a mobile robot, programming industrial automation equipment, or exploring a new climbing mechanism, I enjoy understanding how the pieces fit together—and refining them when they don't.
As a research assistant at Ontario Tech, I also worked on additive-manufacturing research involving FDM filament composites and SOLIDWORKS test geometries.
